Filipche tells Geer he doubts Gov't intentions to continue European path

Skopje, 6 August 2024 (MIA) - The current term of the European Union Ambassador and developments in the country were in the focus of Tuesday's meeting between SDSM leader Venko Filipche and David Geer, whose term as ambassador is set to end.

Filipce expressed doubts about the Government's intentions to continue the strategic direction towards the European Union, SDSM said in a press release.

"I am concerned that the policies of the new Government may cause permanent blocking of the European integration processes. In just a few weeks, the VMRO-DPMNE-led government completely undermined the positions of North Macedonia, opening disputes that have already been closed, which dramatically worsened the chances for continuing European integration," Filipche told Geer.

He told the EU Ambassador that SDSM, as the opposition, will stand for reforms and clear perspectives.

"European integration is a strategic goal of the country, and SDSM will continue to advocate for nurturing democratic values and protecting national interests. SDSM, as the opposition, will stand for reforms by all stakeholders in Macedonian society. Progress in the country's integration will positively affect regional cooperation, stability and its progress," said Filipche.

The SDSM leader has thanked Ambassador Geer for his commitment and mission in the country.
