Skopje, 24 May 2025 (MIA) – SDSM leader Venko Filipche extended his greetings on the occasion of the Day of the Slavic Educators, Ss. Cyril and Methodius, emphasizing that they are not only a symbol of spirituality and literacy among the Slavs but also the foundation of our Macedonian identity, language, and culture.
“Their work is deeply rooted in the national and cultural history of our country. Their mission was not only educational but also a vision for equality, respect for diversity, and progress through education and knowledge. By creating the first alphabet, Glagolitic, which was continued by their followers, including Saint Clement of Ohrid, the Cyrillic alphabet was developed, serving as the foundation for the standardization of the Macedonian language and script. We, and all future generations, have the obligation to respect and nurture the heritage left to us by Saints Cyril and Methodius. We are proud that we have shown care for our cultural heritage and for our Macedonian language. During the governments led by the SDSM, brave and statesmanlike decisions were made, thanks to which today the Macedonian language is recognized and equal within the United Nations and the European Union,” Filipche says in his message.
