Filipche: Refusing a leaders meeting is a signal of political interest in tensions

Skopje, 2 December 2024 (MIA) - SDSM leader Venko Filipche on Monday reiterated his call for a leaders meeting. He said it was the only way to ease a seriously charged atmosphere that was already causing concern.

"I call on the leaders of the largest political parties, Mickoski, Ahmeti and 'Worth It' coalition leaders, to sit down for talks, that's where the message to ease tensions should come from. Politicians are the ones who light the spark, and therefore I believe that's where the call to calm the tension should come from. If someone rejects a leaders meeting, I will consider that they absolutely have reason to hope that the tensions can bring some political benefit. I see no reason why someone wouldn't participate in such a leaders meeting. The situation is serious, and it leaves doubt that someone has an interest in such a deterioration. Only from such a medium as a leaders meeting can citizens grasp, understand, and truly receive the message that it is really necessary to calm the situation. Otherwise, we risk a serious escalation," Filipche told 360 Degrees on Monday.

According to him, after a possible leaders meeting, a joint press conference should be held, to urge for easing tensions because peace and stability in the country are most important.

Filipche is firm that there is no personnel crisis within SDSM. On the contrary, he stressed, the platform is expanding by including valuable people.

"These are people with very strong personal integrity and experience who are helping us expand the platform on which SDSM operates. It is a front that will continue to grow, whereas this Government works without a compass against the interests of the citizens," said Filipche.
