Skopje, 23 June 2025 (MIA) - The biggest challenge for the Government in the coming period will be to enable a system that can swiftly deliver justice and in which the bandit-like realm created by political and business structures would not function, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told an event on the Government's one year in office on Monday.
"Over the past year we launched a strong fight against crime, against those who considered themselves untouchable. Those infamous leaders of injustice are now fugitives, and we have hit the drug gangs hard as well. Nevertheless, I believe we can do better in the fight for an independent judiciary and prosecution. I am not satisfied from the dynamics in the delivery of justice and there are obvious links between that sphere and the political business mafia that built that system. I expect responsibility and the people expect responsibility. Let's bring justice and topple that bandit-like realm created by political and business structures, for which there are no ethnic or political differences, while operating in broad coalitions. This will be my biggest challenge in the coming period and this dynamics will be key for many political developments in the country," said PM Mickoski.
He also touched upon the Kochani tragedy, saying it is a consequence of the broken system that was devastated for years.
"I could not prevent it but I will do everything in my power to prevent its repeat. From day one, I sent a real message that justice must be done and responsibility must be taken. The prosecution and the courts must come to the truth and deliver justice. The Government is currently working on ensuring the largest investment package for reconstruction and support of Kochani to date. We want to show that people are not alone," said Mickoski.
The PM added that Macedonia must move forward and would never allow for the country to be humiliated.
"Those who say that Macedonia is humiliated are the ones who changed the name, made the deal with Bulgaria, plundered the country. The time of humiliation is over," said Mickoski.
He thanked the Government ministers and his team for the work they have put in, while adding "the best is yet to come".
"Today we sow and tomorrow we will reap the fruits of our labor," said Mickoski.
