Skopje, 21 may 2022 (MIA) – The original FIFA World Cup Trophy was unveiled Saturday in Skopje, which is a first in the Macedonian football history to be part of the fifth international tour of the trophy, organized by Coca Cola, the World Cup sponsor. The trophy, made of pure gold, will be handed over to the winner of the FIFA World Cup, set to take place in Qatar this autumn. Speaking at the event, President Stevo Pendarovski said he hoped the trophy would be raised soon by a captain of the Macedonian football team “I think one day soon, in the not so distant future, the trophy rather than being held by the head of the state, it will be raised up high by a captain of the national football team,” he said. Former Brazilian football player and FIFA Ambassador Gilberto Silva, who is on tour with the trophy, said he was glad to be in North Macedonia, a place where people love football. He said Macedonia was close to qualifying for the world cup. “Your dream is to be part of the international championship, which motivates you to work hard to make it happen,” said Silva. The FIFA World Cup Trophy tour includes 54 football nations, covering all FIFA confederations.
