FAME’s Institute performing ‘American Story’

Skopje, 22 July 2024 (MIA) – FAME’s Institute Orchestra will hold a concert titled “American Story” Monday evening in Suli An as part of Skopje Summer Festival. The American violinist with Romanian origin, Irina Muresanu, will be soloist. The orchestra, led by conductor Scott Flavin from the USA, will perform popular classical pieces by American composers.

According to the festival organizer, the Directorate for Culture and Arts-Skopje, the concert will include performances of "West Side Story" by Bernstein, arranged for violin and orchestra, "Appalachian Spring" by Copland, and popular pieces by Scott Joplin and Henry Mancini.

"The concert will wrap up the summer session of orchestral courses at FAME’s  - European Orchestral Performing Institute, which is a musical educational center established by the company FAME'S, known for professional music recording and production. The institute provides a unique platform for professional music education, experience sharing, and creativity, targeting young talented instrumentalists from Europe in the field of orchestral music, as part of the Pan-European Cultural Entities program," the Directorate for Culture and Arts-Skopje said.

Scott Flavin enjoys an incredibly versatile career, as a conductor, violinist, composer, writer, and pedagogue. As a conductor, he holds several important positions, including the newly-appointed Resident Conductor of the Symphony of the Americas, as well as Resident Conductor of The Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Recent performances include conducting members of the Marseille Philharmonic and Guest Conductor for the Symphony of the Americas. He is also the founding conductor of the Camerata Orchestra in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.  He has conducted for various festivals, and the nationally-broadcast “Jazz and the Philharmonic” for PBS television, as well as recordings and performances for a wide variety of notable artists, from Joseph Silverstein to the Beach Boys. 

Romanian-born violinist Irina Muresanu is equally in demand on both sides of the Atlantic, as she has appeared throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and South Africa.

“Muresanu has firmly established herself as a successful recording artist, and her adventurous programming and thematic concepts define her as a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. A laureate and winner of top prizes in several prestigious international violin competitions including the Montreal International, Queen Elisabeth International, UNISA International String, Washington International, and the Schadt String Competition, Muresanu achieved international acclaim early on as an outstanding young soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. Irina Muresanu is Associate Professor in the School of Music and Affiliate Faculty in the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Maryland and has been on the faculties of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and in the Harvard and MIT Music Departments,” the Directorate for Culture and Arts-Skopje said in a press release.
