False bomb threats part of hybrid warfare, impossible to detect senders if threats sent from VPNs: MoI

Skopje, 3 February 2023 (MIA) - False bomb threats in Skopje schools are part of the hybrid warfare and it is no coincidence they re-emerge when a high-risk event is coming, says Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski.

Minister Spasovski told TV21 bomb threats were sent to eight secondary and one primary school across Skopje, adding that the threats were false but "cause serious discomfort".

He says investigation is being carried out but facts and evidence are needed in order to finalize it.

"We identified the ones who sent the threats in Skopje, Kavadarci, Delchevo etc. It is easy to detect the senders if the threats come from e-mail addresses in the country, but it is a problem if this is done from VPNs, which location is difficult, almost impossible, to detect," says Spasovski.

The MoI notes that the investigation on the threats is supported by all institutions and partners such as Interpol, Europol and NATO member-states.
