Fadil Cana for MIA: No cause for panic over monkeypox, aware of Kosovo case

Skopje, 27 December 2024 (MIA) - Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, Dr. Fadil Cana told MIA that there is no reason for concern about monkeypox in the country, noting he is aware of the case in Kosovo. He emphasized that no cases have been registered in our country so far, and if one appears, we are prepared.

“No cases have been reported here. I am well-informed about the situation and had a long conversation with the director of the Infectious Disease Clinic in Pristina. The patient is stable, and everything is under control,” Cana told MIA.

He clarified that this is an isolated case of a Kosovo citizen who had been working abroad for a long period.

"It is not an autochthonous case but an imported one. The citizens here can feel safe. There is no room for panic," he said.

Cana emphasizes that the authorities have the resources to cope with the disease if it were to spread here.

Monkeypox can be transmitted from person to person through contact with infected materials from wounds or fluids from the skin, mouth, or genital areas, including through touching, close contact, and sexual activity. It can also spread through the air when talking, coughing, or sneezing.
