European Affairs Minister Murtezani meets Swedish Ambassador Larsson Jain

Skopje, 1 August 2024 (MIA) - Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani met Thursday with Swedish Ambassador Ami Larsson Jain, discussing development cooperation and strengthening bilateral cooperation.

"Minister Murtezani expressed gratitude for the key role the Kingdom of Sweden plays in supporting the implementation of reforms and goals related to EU membership. He emphasized that Sweden frequently demonstrates that support through its significant bilateral assistance, which is the only direct financial assistance of its kind from an EU member-state. Such commitment is reflected in Sweden's new strategy for reform cooperation with Western Balkan countries for 2021-2027, focusing on the progress of human rights, democratic governance, sustainable development, and inclusive economic growth," the Ministry of European Affairs said in a press release.

Interlocutors also discussed implementation of the "Support to European Accession of North Macedonia" project, funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

The project ensures the continuity of previous support from Sweden and Norway, "which has significantly improved the EU coordination mechanism, aiding reform efforts aimed at aligning with EU standards, values, and acquis," the press release adds.ssh/ad/
