European Affairs Committee: Danish support for North Macedonia's European integration processes

European Affairs Committee: Danish support for North Macedonia's European integration processes

Skopje, 19 September 2023 (MIA) - Members of the Macedonian Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs met Tuesday with the Danish Parliament's European Affairs Committee delegation, as part of the delegation's working visit to North Macedonia.

Deputy Committee Chairperson Arta Bilali Zendeli addressed participants in the meeting, pointing out that North Macedonia and the Kingdom of Denmark have good friendly relations, in all fields.

Bilali Zendeli extended gratitude for the Danish support to the European Union enlargement process with the Western Balkan countries, and in that context, also with North Macedonia.

Noting that the Danish Parliament was the first to ratify the country's Stabilisation and Association Agreement, as well as the Protocol for North Macedonia's accession to NATO, she expressed hope that Denmark will continue to support the country on its path to the EU.

Bilali Zendeli stressed that as an EU candidate country, North Macedonia is obliged to respect the guidelines in the Negotiating Framework for EU membership, by which, among other things, Bulgarians should be included in the Constitution.

In addition, she noted that the constitutional amendments are in parliamentary procedure, and said she expects them to be adopted as soon as possible in order to hold the Intergovernmental Conference during the Spanish EU Presidency, i.e. by the end of the year, in order for the country to get a positive impulse and enthusiasm for implementing the necessary reforms.

Chairperson of the Danish Parliament's European Affairs Committee, Niels Flemming Hansen, reaffirmed Danish support for North Macedonia's European integration processes, adding that he understands the country's concern over new blockades on the EU path.

Hansen noted that North Macedonia must respect the obligation in the Negotiating Framework and pass the constitutional amendments, but at the same time work on the implementation of the laws and regulations that the EU requires in several areas, the Parliament said in a press release.
