EU to provide €500,000 in aid for people in Nagorno-Karabakh

Brussels, 22 September 2023 (dpa/MIA) - The European Union is providing €500,000 in humanitarian aid to the people affected by the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the European Commission said on Friday.

"The escalation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has had serious repercussions for civilians," said EU Crisis Commissioner Janez Lenarčič.

"While the EU welcomes the ceasefire, I strongly urge all parties of the conflict to ensure unimpeded and immediate access to humanitarian organizations," he added.

"We must make sure that humanitarian workers can provide emergency relief to the people in need,” Lenarčič stated.

The money is intended to cover basic needs, shelter and psychological support, a press release said.

The newly announced financial support comes in addition to €1.17 million allocated to the crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh earlier this year, the commission said.
