EU provides additional €5.2 million to Libya
- The European Union is to provide an additional €5.2 million ($5.55 million) in humanitarian aid to Libya.
Brussels, 18 September 2023 (dpa/MIA) - The European Union is to provide an additional €5.2 million ($5.55 million) in humanitarian aid to Libya.
The European Commission announced on Monday that the money is go to humanitarian organizations working in Libya with a focus on providing shelter, health, food, water, sanitation and hygiene, and protection.
The latest announcement brings to €5.7 million the EU's financial support for Libya to deal with the damage caused by storm Daniel.
Additionally some EU countries have sent relief supplies and expert teams to the disaster area.
Also on Monday, EU Crisis Commissioner Janez Lenarcic sent his condolences after five rescue workers from Greece were killed in a car accident in Libya over the weekend.
"We express our condolences to all those affected and wish a speedy recovery to those injured," he said. Several Libyan nationals were also killed.
