Brussels, 7 May 2024 (MIA) - The European Union trusts that all political forces will focus on moving forward on North Macedonia's EU path, said European Commission spokeswoman Ana Pisonero regarding expectations from Wednesday's presidential and parliamentary elections.

"We clearly support the EU accession perspective and we expect to open the accession negotiations as soon as possible," said Pisonero while adding that North Macedonia has committed to amending the Constitution.

She expressed hope that negotiations on the first cluster Fundamentals will open with both Albania and North Macedonia as soon as possible.

"This is now in the hands of the member-states on when the next Intergovernmental Conference will be convened," noted Pisonero.
