EU Commissioner Kos arrives in Skopje

Skopje, 30 June 2025 (MIA) - EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos arrived Monday in the country to take part in EU-Western Balkans Leaders’ Meeting in Skopje, dedicated to the Growth Plan. Kos was welcomed in the Government by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, where they are expected to hold a tete-a-tete meeting followed by a bilateral meeting with the other delegations.

At the Skopje International Airport, Kos was welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski.

“This afternoon, ahead of tomorrow’s Western Balkans leaders’ summit, I had the honor to welcome the European Union’s Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos. The Euro-integrations are not just a declarative commitment, but a clear strategic commitment by the Government. A full agenda lies ahead of us – today, together with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski we will meet with the EU Commissioner. Tomorrow, at the meeting with the leaders from the EU and the Western Balkans the focus will be placed on the Growth Plan, the reform agenda, as well as the challenges faced by our country and the region on the path to full-fledged membership in the European Union,” Mucunski wrote in a post on his official Facebook page.

The leaders’ meeting which will formally begin on Tuesday is expected to be attended by leaders from the Western Balkans, as well as ministers, top EU officials and representatives of regional organizations and international institutions.

On Tuesday, two panel discussions will be held with Mickoski and Kos addressing the first one followed by a joint press conference.

The first panel will be dedicated to the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans and the second one on specific mechanisms for its implementation.

The EU Commissioner’s Skopje visit was announced last week by the European Commission. Summit attendees include the leaders of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo.

The Interior Ministry has said that some streets will be closed for the Western Balkans Leaders’ Summit. Traffic will be rerouted from "streets in the wider central area of Skopje" during the summit, it said in a press release.

Police will be on-hand to ensure public safety and traffic restrictions are followed.
