EU Ambassador Geer visits Kumanovo
Kumanovo, 28 January 2022 (MIA) – EU Ambassador David Geer visited Friday Kumanovo, as part of his municipal visits, where he met with Kumanovo Mayor Maksim Dimitrievski to discuss protection of the environment and EU-funded projects implemented in the city in the northern part of the country. Ambassador Geer visited “Hotel Solun” in downtown Kumanovo , considered a monument of culture that was recently transformed into a multi-functional centre with EU support estimated at  €180,000. Restoration and refurbishment of the former hotel premises was carried out as part of the cross border cooperation between the Municipality of Kumanovo and Municipality of Dupnitsa. He urged the project on the construction of modern waste management system to be accelerated, which includes municipalities from the Eastern and Northeastern Planning Region. It will benefit almost 20 percent of the population in the country, according to him. Geer said he also discussed ways how Kumanovo could become the leader in environmental protection with Mayor Dimitrievski. “EU is a great partner of Kumanovo municipality and one of the largest donors in the city’s history. New opportunities for cooperation are being opened. The main topic at the meeting was protection of the environment and the fight against pollution. We will try together with our EU partners and their experiences to eliminate pollution,” Dimitrievski told reporters.
