Brussels, 25 May 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Assets and reserves of the Russian Central Bank worth more than €200 billion ($214 billion) are currently being blocked by the European Union because of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The figure is based on reports from member states to the European Commission, a spokesperson for the authority said in Brussels on Thursday.
The blockade of the Russian Central Bank's assets is a consequence of sanctions imposed last year due to the Kremlin's war.
All transactions related to the management of reserves and assets of the Russian Central Bank were prohibited.
As a result, the Russian central bank no longer has access to its assets held at central banks and private institutions in the EU.
