Enough with elections every two years: PM

Enough with elections every two years: PM
Skopje, 9 May 2022 (MIA) – The Government and the Parliament are not boycotted, the citizens and companies who require the legislation are boycotted, says Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski after the opposition has said it would boycott the Parliament as of Tuesday. “The Parliament has committees that incorporate all political parties and their MPs. This is the place for debate on all laws,” PM Kovachevski told Sitel. On the leaders’ meeting requested by VMRO-DPMNE’s Hristijan Mickoski, the PM says it was not asked to focus on solving problems in the country but to reach agreement over early elections, an offer he says is insincere and for daily political purposes. “We responded immediately by saying there is a completely legitimate Government in place that is successfully managing all challenges, and the least the country needs at this time is elections, because economic activity stops at time of elections, which would be another blow for the Macedonian economy,” says Kovachevski. He reiterates that elections will take in 2024, first presidential and then parliamentary, adding ‘enough with elections every two years”. Kovachevski says the opposition was invited in the working groups set up with Bulgaria but they refused to take part, noting that all documents and major strategic decisions arising from the talks would be discussed by the party leaders.
