Skopje, 1 December 2025 (MIA) — The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources has started the process of aligning the national motor vehicle law with the EU Regulation 2018/858 concerning the approval and market surveillance of vehicles.
To this aim, according to an official press release, the ministry hosted Monday a working meeting led by Slovenian expert in European vehicle legislation Robert Jerončić with representatives from the Bureau of Metrology, the Metrological Council, the Customs Administration and several other institutions competent for the approval, import and control of vehicles.
Energy Minister Sanja Bozhinovska also attended the meeting, stressing the need for a consistent application of vehicle regulations, the release said.
"The Macedonian vehicle law has to finally start being applied consistently and in line with European rules. It is time we seriously accelerated these processes and established some clear, precise and predictable procedures," Bozhinovska is quoted as saying in the release.
She added that state institutions had already received "clear guidelines for an accelerated and substantial alignment with EU regulations."
Meeting participants discussed specific steps for establishing a reliable national system and legislation fully aligned with European laws, modern procedures for the approval and import of vehicles as well as stricter and more efficient surveillance in all stages of the process, from documentation to control, the release said.

Through the exchange of practices and expertise, meeting participants confirmed their commitment to achieving greater transparency and full compliance with European standards, the release said, adding that a workshop on the same topic would be held Tuesday.
"The workshop is aimed at finalizing the technical guidelines and drafting specific amendments to the Law on Vehicles," the release said.
According to the release, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, with the aim of building a modern, safe and transparent vehicle market, continues to work on aligning national legislation with the EU laws as well as on strengthening institutional control and market surveillance mechanisms. mr/
