Skopje, 15 July 2024 (MIA) - The efforts to put out wildfires on Serta mountain in the Negotino region are continuing, with helicopters and firefighting aircraft to be deployed in the extinguishing operations on Monday.
Crisis Management Center (CMC) director Stojanche Angelov said late Sunday the fire on Serta continues to ravage the mountain.
"Unfortunately, we have not managed to put it under control. The terrain is exceptionally inaccessible, whereas high temperatures and variable winds make the extinguishing efforts even harder," said Angelov.
The fire has been burning since Wednesday morning.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said late Sunday assistance would arrive shortly from Slovenia, Turkey, Serbia and Montenegro.
"In only a few days, we have managed to put into operation the aircraft that were neglected for years. The Army and the police have joined in the efforts. We will do everything in our power to cope with the situation," Mickoski says in a Facebook post.
