DUI: Internal split in VMRO-DPMNE between those who stand for EU and those who favor isolation takes place at expense of country

Skopje, 20 September 2023 (MIA) - The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) said in a press release on Wednesday that it keeps close tabs on major concerns within VMRO-DPMNE and deep divisions that appear in the split between integration and isolation.
"This internal split between the forces in VMRO who stand for the country's integration in the European Union and those who favor isolation takes place at the expense of the country and its citizens, through abuse of institutions, processes in the country, as well as political parties and party leaders," reads the press release.
DUI notes that in his latest interview, party leader Ali Ahmeti spoke about the negotiation process in Przhino and the meetings with Zaev and Gruevski on the topic of overcoming the situation through the process of truth and reconciliation.
"During these meetings of the leaders at the MPs Club, which were held in the knowledge of the international community and the party leaderships, a working group was set up consisting of: Oliver Spasovski, Nikola Todorov and Artan Grubi," the press release adds.
DUI points out that the changes to the Criminal Code were initially requested by VMRO-DPME before the constitutional changes for the Prespa Agreement.
"The Criminal Code was then also a request by the new VMRO-DPMNE leader, Hristijan Mickoski, at the leaders' and bilateral meetings, but after he parted ways with the former VMRO-DPMNE leadership, despite SDSM's agreement, he stepped aside from this request. Neither the state nor the citizens nor the media nor the Americans and Europeans, nor SDSM and DUI are enemies of VMRO-DPMNE, but all progressive forces in the country vie for VMRO to give up its isolationist policy and become part of a European Macedonia," DUI's press release reads.
