Drama Theater opens new season with 'Gidion's Knot'

Skopje, 9 September 2025 (MIA) -- Skopje's Drama Theater opens its new season Tuesday with Johnna Adams's "Gidion's Knot," which it will also stage on Sept. 11 at Risto Shishkov Chamber Theater Festival in Strumica.
"Gidion's Knot" centers around a grieving mother and an overwhelmed elementary school teacher's difficult conversation about the tragic suicide of the mother’s son, the teacher’s student, Gidion.
The play was directed by Dragana Miloshevski Popova. According to her, the play touches on children's creativity, art, loneliness, freedom of expression, bullying and social media use as well as parental and teachers' responsibilities and guilt.
The play's dramaturge is Viktorija Rangelova Petrovska. The cast consists of Biljana Dragikjevikj Projkoska, Anja Mitikj and First Rehearsal children's drama studio members: Sasha Dimitrievska, Lea Stojkov, Mina Gjaku, Ina Prokopovska, Katja Beshlieva, Bistra Stefanovska, Jana Neshevska, Matej Markovski and Ioannis Dalagiorgos.
In addition to "Gidion's Knot" (2012), Johnna Adams has written around 20 plays, including a rhyming, Alexandrine verse play also featuring a sestina, haiku, limericks and sonnets, "Lickspittles, Buttonholers, and Damned Pernicious Go-Betweens" (2016).
Adams graduated from the DePaul University Theatre School with a BFA in Acting and received a 2012 MFA in Playwriting from Hunter College. In 2013, she received a Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association Citation for "Gidion’s Knot." mr/
