Documents with country’s old name no longer valid at border crossings, Albania permits entry with old ID cards

Skopje, 13 February 2024 (MIA) – Traffic at all border crossings in North Macedonia is flowing regularly on Tuesday, without any delays. As of midnight, vehicles are being let through the crossings in line with the provision of the Prespa Agreement, according to which driving licenses and travel documents with the “Republic of Macedonia” name are no longer valid.

Around 300 passengers had crossed the Bogorodica-Evzonoi crossing with Greece by 12pm, no significant delays were reported. Greek border authorities at the crossing do not permit passengers with vehicle registration certificates bearing the country’s old name to cross the border. Apart from vehicle registration certificates, the border authorities are thoroughly examining the rest of the travel documents.

In line with the bilateral protocol with Albania, traffic is flowing regularly with valid travel documents as well as driving licenses and license plates without the “NMK” designation. According to MIA’s information, citizens with identity cards with the country’s old name were allowed to cross the border by the Albanian border authorities.
