Dimitrieska Kochoska: Government's efforts for fiscal consolidation recognized, support from IMF and World Bank

Skopje, 25 October 2024 (MIA) - The new Government's efforts for fiscal consolidation are recognized by the international financial institutions and they provide support for it, Minister of Finance Gordana Dimitrieska Kochoska said after meetings with top officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington.

"At the meetings, we pointed out that fiscal consolidation cannot be done overnight and that it takes time. The most important thing is that we demonstrate will, which can be seen from the Fiscal Strategy, which is aligned and foresees reduction of the budget deficit to 4 percent in 2025. That is what is most important," the Minister said in a statement to Alfa TV, as cited by the Ministry of Finance.

She said she was particularly pleased with the fact that her efforts as Minister of Finance and the efforts of the new Government to improve the results of the state were recognized at the meetings by the representatives of the international financial institutions.

Dimitrieska Kochoska expressed confidence that excellent cooperation is ahead as well as efforts to lead a policy of gradual fiscal consolidation, prudent spending of budget funds and simultaneously taking measures to combat the gray economy.

The Minister of Finance is participating at the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, where she also held meetings with top officials of the international financial institutions, reads the press release.
