Kumanovo, 5 December 2024 (MIA) - Gasification, heating subsidies, electric buses, car sharing are some of the measures to fight air pollution that the Government plans to realize in the coming period, said Deputy PM and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti on Thursday.
Deputy PM Mexhiti said the problem is a long-standing one and measures are undertaken on a daily basis, noting that the causes for air pollution are public transport and the use of various means for household heating.
"I want to see the nationwide gasification process start as soon as possible, the Government will provide subsidies to citizens in most polluted urban areas so they go back to the central heating system, EU has provided six electric buses for the Skopje public transport and the Government is planning to purchase 120 e-buses. We are also about to promote a new 'car sharing' project, a private initiative that will contribute to reducing the number of vehicles in the city," Mexhiti told reporters.
