Gostivar, 27 March 2024 (MIA) – Leaders of the Democratic Party of Turks of Macedonia and the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI), signed a coalition agreement Wednesday in Gostivar over joint participation in the coming presidential and parliamentary elections.
At a press conference, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti assessed the coalition agreement as a “historic act of cooperation”, which he said would continue after the elections as well.
“This is not a single-use front, just for the presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024, but it will be eternal because our interests are shared. You yourself, respected members of the Turkish community, will see that this partnership, this front, will be more than politics, it will be brotherly cooperation,” said Ahmeti.
The leader of the Democratic Party of Turks in Macedonia, Beycan İlyas, speaking in both Turkish and Albanian, said the agreement is a testament of the multiethnic spirit of Gostivar.
“The signing of the agreement highlights the things that unite us. We are here today for a better future for our country. The characteristic features of the parties in this front are their experience and contribution at the most important moments for the country. I hope this coalition will be beneficial for our European future,” İlyas said.
Both leaders said they expect victories at the coming elections.
