Skopje, 3 November 2023 (MIA) - Customs officers have foiled an attempt to smuggle branded clothes and footwear worth Mden 1.6 million from popular fashion brands, including Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Nike, in two separate border controls for entry into the country at the Tabanovce border crossing. 

The branded goods with Mden 457,546 in customs duties were seized by customs officers, and criminal charges will be filed against the vehicle drivers,the Customs Administration said in a press release.  

Customs officers found the Dolce & Gabbana and Verasace branded clothes and footwear, worth Mden 700,000, in the trunk of a bus driving the regular Dortmund-Tetovo route, the press release adds.

According to the press release, Nike branded clothing and footwear, worth Mden 921,341, were discovered by the mobile teams at the Department for Control and Investigations during a scan check of the goods motor vehicle. The scan and detailed check of the vehicle revealed undeclared branded goods in the driver's cabin on the upper and lower beds and the space next to the driver. ssh/nn/
