Skopje, 5 July 2023 (MIA) — An exhibition of large-format photographs of Macedonian cultural and historical sites and other cultural heritage will open at the Hristo Uzunov Memorial House in Ohrid and run until July 7.
According to organizers in a press release, the main goal of the exhibit is to raise public awareness for the need of promotion, protection, and maintenance of the country's archaeological sites, cultural and historical monuments, religious buildings and other cultural heritage.
"This exhibition affirms several undeniable historical facts important for the Republic of North Macedonia. One is that St. Clement on the Plaoshnik hill above Lake Ohrid founded a literary school and university with some 4,000 disciples. Another is that the Macedonian fresco painters, in the Kurbinovo village church on the Prespa Lake and in St. Panteleimon monastery near Skopje created works that, in fact, heralded the Renaissance," organizers say.
The country's Stobi, Plaoshnik, Heraclea and many other archaeological sites "bear witness to the density of creative values, cultures and religions on this soil of ours," they add.
Also on display will be photos of frescoes, icons, carvings and iconostases from the Bigorski monastery done by 19th-century protomasters Makarie Frchkoski, Dimo Garkata, and Dicho Zografot.
The exhibition is organized by Media Broadcasting with the support of the Ministry of Culture. mr/
