Skopje, 9 December 2025 (MIA) - The Council of Public Prosecutors elected Bashkim Selimi as its new president at Tuesday’s session. Until now, he served as the Council’s vice president. Marijana Ilievska was elected vice president.
Selimi’s nomination, submitted by member Zorica Pavlovikj, received eight votes in favour out of 11, while three ballots were invalid.

“Thank you for the support. Those who didn’t vote for me will also be with me, we’ll work together. I also want to thank the former president; we fought together and will keep doing so,” Selimi said.
He proposed Marijana Ilievska as vice president, and the Council backed the proposal unanimously.
The election follows the end of term of the previous president Dushica Dimitrieska, whose mandate expired on October 1. This was noted at the Council’s 28th session on September 30. At that time, the election of a new president was postponed due to the local elections.

At today’s session, member Ardijan Demiri, while setting the agenda, requested a postponement of the election decision due to reform laws currently under parliamentary procedure, primarily the new law on public prosecutors, which is expected to be passed by the end of December.
Demiri emphasized that a 20-day delay would not affect the completion of the Council and that the adoption of the new law would allow members from the ranks of the Parliament to propose and be elected as Council president on an equal footing with other colleagues.
The proposal was supported by only four members and was therefore not adopted.
At today’s session, the Council of Public Prosecutors approved the resignation of Mustafa Hajrullahi, former head of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje, after he submitted a request to leave the post.
The Council is also established a Commission to implement the 2025–2028 communication and transparency strategy.
