Construction of a home for elderly begins in Zrnovci

Zrnovci, 21 September 2025 (MIA) – The construction of a home for the elderly officially began Sunday in Zrnovci, the first facility of its kind in eastern Macedonia. It is a private investment by the company “Eko Pak Hit” from Kochani. The home will cover an area of 1,800 square meters and accommodate 64 residents in 32 rooms. Initially, 30 staff members are planned to be employed, with the possibility of increasing to 50 employees in a later phase depending on needs.

At the cornerstone-laying, blessed by Metropolitan Ilarion and attended by PM Mickoski, Biljana Miteva from “Eko Pak Hit” highlighted the broader aim of the project.

“The construction of this home means development not only for Zrnovci, but for the whole Eastern region. On the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, we celebrate the birth of a project that will bring better living conditions for the elderly and new employment opportunities,” she said, thanking the Prime Minister for his support.

Mickoski, for his part, congratulated the investor for deciding to invest in such a facility in the municipality of Zrnovci. According to him, they are pioneers in eastern Macedonia. He believes that what they are starting today adds value to the quality of life of the residents in these municipalities and in the eastern part of the country in general.

“The Government, the mayor, and the municipality of Zrnovci did everything within our competence to accelerate this process, so that today, on this beautiful day of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God, we can rejoice at the ‘birth’ of a new facility that will provide long life to those who will benefit from its services,” Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski noted.

According to Zrnovci mayor Borcho Kocev, the beginning of construction of the home for the elderly is a significant event that represents progress for the municipality and provides conditions for a better and more dignified life for its oldest residents.

The home for the elderly in Zrnovci, situated some ten kilometers from Kochani, is scheduled for completion within 12 months, when it will open its doors to the first residents. The investor also plans to build visitor accommodation in Zrnovci for families of the residents.
