Constitutional Court, OSCE Mission to Skopje sign MoU

Skopje, 21 February 2024 (MIA) - The Constitutional Court and the OSCE Mission to Skopje signed Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at promoting principles of the rule of law and citizens' basic rights and freedoms.

The OSCE Mission joins the Court's celebration of its 60th anniversary, and on that occasion, will also support an international conference in March, which is expected to be attended by 15 delegations, including presidents and judges from several Constitutional Courts, and constitutional judiciary experts, the Constitutional Court said in a press release.

Constitutional Court President Dobrila Kacarska thanked Ambassador Kilian Wahl for recognizing the Court's values and its role in the legal order.

"As a court, and also a country, we are grateful of your partnership in supporting our long tradition and continuity of the Constitutional Court's work for 60 years. Our country, as one of the six republics in former Yugoslavia, had a Constitutional Court with unique competences that ensured the highest constitutional protection, just like today. However, we have more to do in ensuring greater protection of citizens' rights, mainly, by improving the Court's capacities," Kacarska said.

Head of the OSCE Mission to Skopje, Kilian Wahl highlighted the joint commitment to the protection of human rights, promoting and supporting transparency and the rule of law in North Macedonia.

"Signing the memorandum will continue our partnership, not only to mark the 60th anniversary, but also jointly contribute and strengthen the commitment to justice and rule of law," Wahl stressed.

Over the past year, the Constitutional Court and the OSCE Mission in Skopje have organized joint trainings to improve the skills of the Court's advisers for the protection of human rights and freedoms. ssh/ik/
