Skopje, 25 January 2023 (MIA) – The Constitutional Court has once again appealed to Parliament to appoint three judges so that the Court can work without interruptions.

“The Parliament and the Judicial Council, which should nominate a judge, have to do this as soon as possible,” said Constitutional Court spokesperson Hristina Belovska on Wednesday.

She reiterated that the Court has been functioning with six out of nine judges since early December because the term of Judge Vangelina Markulova expired.

“To make a decision in the Court, it takes at least five ‘yes’ votes. The court is a collective body where each judge has the right to an opinion that may differ from his colleagues’. We often face situations where proposals don’t get a majority because of three ‘yes’ votes and three ‘no’ votes, or four ‘yes’ votes’ and two ‘no’ votes,” Belovska said.

Nine judges comprise the Constitutional Court, which appoints the President from the order of judges for a duration of three years without the right to re-election. Parliament elects the judges for a duration of 9 years without the right to re-election. The judges are elected from the order of esteemed lawmakers. dk/ik/
