Skopje, 26 April 2023 (MIA) – The working group charged with drafting the initiative over the need to amend the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia held a constitutive session on Wednesday, said the Ministry of Justice in a press release.

In the press release, the Ministry of Justice said the members of the group unanimously elected Margarita Caca-Nikolovska, former judge at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, as President of the group, and Bajram Pollozhani, former judge at the Constitutional Court and constitutional law professor, as Vice President of the group.

The Government is the petitioner of the constitutional changes, and it instructed the Ministry of Justice to establish a working group. The working group is charged with drafting the initiative over the need for constitutional changes. Once drafted, the initiative will be delivered to the Government, which will then submit it to Parliament. The initiative will have to pass through all parliamentary bodies.

The working group consists of 23 members, ten of which are participating as experts, ten were proposed by the political parties and three of them are representatives of institutions – the President’s Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Secretariat for European Affairs.

“Minister of Justice Krenar Lloga and his Deputy Viktorija Avramovska-Madikj wished the members of the working group successful work and stated that this is a historic opportunity for the realization of the country’s strategic goal – EU membership,” said the Ministry of Justice in the press release.
