Conference marks Public Servants Day

Conference marks Public Servants Day

Skopje, 24 June 2025 (MIA) - Public servants everywhere and here are a mirror of the state. Without a strong, professional, professional, responsible, and respected public administration, there is no state, no reforms, and no true democracy, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski at a Ministry of Public Administration conference marking Public Servants Day on Tuesday.

In his address at the conference, Mickoski said the day is not only a formality but also a call for reforms “to finally overcome the afflictions that have plagued the public administration for too long”.

“Today’s day isn’t just a formality, it is a call. A call for change, a call for reform, a call to finally overcome the afflictions that have plagued the public administration for too long and that we must recognize: partisation, nepotism, inefficiency, clientelism. The time has come for change – real change. We are laying the foundations of that change. For your time that is coming. For a time when knowledge and effort will matter more than party membership. For a time when the institutions will serve the citizens, not the other way around. For a time when professionalism will be the norm, not the exception. For a time when civil servants will be proud to be a part of the public administration, and citizens will know they will be served with respect, efficiently and digitally,” Mickoski said.

Mickoski spoke about reforms in the public administration, highlighting an action for a professional and quality public administration, which he said represents the foundation for a transparent and sustainable process of consultations during the drafting of laws.

Minister of Public Administration Goran Minchev said panel discussions on “Modern Public Sector” and “Managing Towards Change” will be held as part of the events marking Public Servants Day.

“For the first time in Macedonia we are marking the International Day of Public Servants and Public Service, a symbolic but also a meaningful moment which coincides with the marking of the Government’s first year in office. As you can see, we are marking this day not only with formalities, but also through work, with the holding of two panel discussions on two very important topics – modern public sector and managing towards change – which are in fact on the Ministry of Public Administration’s reform agenda. When I speak about the reform agenda, I am referring to four meaningful draft-laws that will be a turning point for public administration reform and are already in parliamentary procedure. I have said many times that public servants and the public administration are the bloodstream, the pillar, the main driver of change in the country,” Minchev said.
