Skopje, 4 August 2023 (MIA) — Ten wildfires that broke out Friday on the territory of the country, of which seven in the Skopje region, have been extinguished or are under control, the Crisis Management Center said.

According to the CMC press release, a rural fire in the Veles village of Slivnik damaged a house. The brushfire in the Demir Hisar village of Sopotnica burned dry grass and low-stemmed vegetation. A grass and scrub fire near the Strumica village of Kosturino also burned old tires.

In the Skopje region, wildfires erupted in Gorno Blace; the Ljubosh, Studenichani near Batinci area; and in Volkovo. The latter two also burned through illegal landfils.

A forest fire broke out in Bojane near Saraj, and dry grassland burned in Butel Municipality. The Vardarishte landfill and a landfill in the Zelenikovo village of Oreshani were also on fire, the CMC release says. mr/
