Skopje, 2 May 2024 (MIA) — The Cinematheque of North Macedonia will screen several Macedonian films in May, highlighting the oeuvre of Macedonian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer Stole Popov (b. 1950) who was awarded this year's Golden Lens award.

The Golden Lens is an annual award presented by the Cinematheque to mark its anniversary.

“Popov has enriched the national cinematography not only with his award-winning opus but also with his teaching and managerial engagement in the art of film and film education,” the Cinematheque said in a press release.

The Cinematheque will show Popov's documentaries "Fire" (1974), "Australia, Australia" (1976), "Dae" (1979) and feature films "The Red Horse" (1981), "Happy New Year '49" (1986), "Tattoo" (1991), "Gypsy Magic" (1997), and "To the Hilt" (2014).

Also shown will be Macedonian shorts by directors Koco Nedkov, Darko Markovikj and Eleonora Veninova; the new documentary by Igor Ivanov, "Concrete Time" (2024); Goran Paskaljevic's "Cabaret Balkan" (1998) written by Macedonian writer Dejan Dukovski as well as the documentary "Skopje '63" (1964) by Veljko Bulajic.

The Cinematheque will also screen "Peter Von Kant" (2022) by French director François Ozon as well as several Italian movies as part of its Italian Film Week from May 13 to 18.

The Cinematheque was established on April 29, 1974. Previous Golden Lens award winners include filmmakers Branko Gapo, Trajche Popov, Kiril Cenevski, Kole Angelovski and Kole Manev; production sound mixer Gligor Pakovski; animator and cartoonist Darko Markovikj; and directors of photography Dragan Salkovski, Ljube Petkovski, and Blagoja Drnkov. ba/mr
