Chifte Hammam hosts lecture by Isabell Lorey

Skopje, 1 July 2024 (MIA) - Political theorist Isabell Lorey is set to deliver a lecture at the National Gallery's Chifte Hammam in Skopje on Monday, as part of the 9th edition of the CRIC Festival for Critical Culture.

The lecture entitled "Presentist Democracy: Care Practice and Queer Debt" will focus on the current practices and potentials of socialised care that can be the basis for a democracy in the present, said the festival's organizers.

"After the lecture in English, in conversation with Artan Sadiku, we will discuss the question of how to rid ourselves of the debt subjectivity position that the current system induces upon us and how to organize a dispersed socialized care in order to fight the temporal scarcity of the present," the organizers add.

Isabell Lorey is a political theorist and a Queer Studies Professor at the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne and works for transversal texts (transversal.at), the publication platform of the European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies (eipcp). She is the author of several books, including 'State of Insecurity: Government of the Precarious', 'Democracy in the Political Present: A Queer-Feminist Theory'.

CRIC - Festival for Critical Culture is financially supported by the Goethe Institute, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Creative Europe program of the European Commission, financed by the European Union.
