Berlin, 31 August 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Champions League winners Manchester City will have a rematch against RB Leipzig, while Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will face Manchester United in the Champions League group stage.

City are in Group G, which also includes Red Star Belgrade and Swiss champions Young Boys following a draw on Thursday. City defeated Leipzig 8-1 on aggregate in last season's last 16 on their way to the title.

Bayern, meanwhile, also share Group A with Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

Record winners Real Madrid were put in Group C with Italian champions Napoli, Portuguese side Braga and debutants Union Berlin.

Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund are in Group F with Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle. Due to the war in Ukraine, Shakhtar Donetsk will welcome Group H opponents - Barcelona, Porto and Antwerp - in Hamburg, Germany.

The first round of the group stage is to be played on September 19-20. The full schedule is to be announced by Saturday.

This season will have the final Champions League edition with the current format of 32 teams participating at the group stage, after European ruling body UEFA announced that a new expanded format would be introduced for the next season.
