Chamber demands business zones, railway along Vardar in Skopje, Gjorgjievski promises support

Skopje, 24 July 2025 (MIA) — At a working meeting at the Economic Chamber, Skopje mayoral candidate and current Kisela Voda Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski considered requests of the business community including to designate business zones in Skopje and to build a railway along the Vardar to facilitate the flow of people, services and goods.

According to Economic Chamber president Branko Azeski after the meeting, Gjorgievski told businesspeople they would have his maximum support.

Gjorgjievski was also asked to consider changes in the urban development of Skopje. "If the city's expansion goes on like this, we will bring all of Macedonia here, especially in the business sector," Azeski said.

He also suggested better regulations for development zones, "especially Vizbegovo and its concentration of companies and capital."

"Everything is money. The new mayor should use it to the maximum. We are aware the Skopje budget is smaller than the budgets of any other capital city, so we believe it should be increased only for productive investments," Azeski said, adding that the state should help the city.

Gjorgjievski said that as Kisela Voda mayor over the past four years he had boosted the development of the local economy.

"My priority is to create a strong and economically stable Skopje that will move forward," he said, adding that it was important for a capital city to have a long-term economic strategy for "the development of capital, a strong economy and new, well-paid jobs." mr/
