Skopje, 28 January 2026 (MIA) — The National Opera and Ballet will perform Italian composer Pietro Mascagni's one-act opera "Cavalleria rusticana" at 7:30 pm.

One of the world's most popular operas and Mascagni’s best-known work, "Cavalleria rusticana" is a drama about love, jealousy and betrayal set in a Sicilian village.

"A pearl of an opera showing human passions and inevitable fate through direct drama and powerful music," the NOB described it in a press release.

"Expect strong emotions and the famous 'Intermezzo,'' the release said.

The opera was directed by Giandomenico Vaccari from Italy. The cast consists of Blagica Pop Tomova as Santuzza, Zoran Sotirov as Turiddu, Riste Velkov as Alfio, Aleksandra Lazarovska Vasilevski as Lola and Marika Popovikj as Mother Lucia.

They will be accompanied by the National Opera Ballet choir and orchestra, conducted by Ivan Eminovikj. The choirmasters are Gjurgica Dashikj and Jasmina Gjorgjeska. The set was designed by Zoran Nikolovski. The costumes were designed by Elena Doncheva. mr/
