Catholics and some Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas Eve

Skopje, 24 November 2023 (MIA) - Catholics and some Orthodox faithful who follow the Gregorian calendar are set to celebrate Christmas Eve on Sunday evening.

The central celebration in North Macedonia will take place at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Skopje. The Christmas Eve Mass at the Church will be presided over by the Bishop of Skopje and Eparchial Bishop of the Macedonian Catholic Eparchy of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Strumica-Skopje, Kiro Stojanov.

The Greek, Bulgarian, Romanian, Ukrainian and Georgian Orthodox churches are set to celebrate Christmas on Monday as well, after adopting the Gregorian calendar.

The rest of the Orthodox world, which follows the Julian calendar, including the Russian, Serbian, and Macedonian Orthodox Church, as well as the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the monks at Mount Athos, will celebrate Christmas on January 7.
