'Call Me Gospodin' to premiere at Vojdan Chernodrinski National Theater

Prilep, 6 December 2024 (MIA) — Prilep's Vojdan Chernodrinski National Theater is staging Philipp Löhle’s "Call Me Gospodin," a contemporary farce about nonconformity and the search for personal freedom through rejecting social norms that trivialize our lives, MIA's Prilep correspondent writes.

Directed by Boris Vasileski, "Call Me Gospodin" (German: "Genannt Gospodin”) tells the story of a man named Gospodin who tries to exist free of money and property in a world ruled by capitalism.

"This is my second time working with the theater troupe and I'm already familiar with their great energy," Vasileski, the play's director, said.

The cast consists of Dimitar Gjorgievski, Daniela Ivanoska, Mihajlo Milenkoski, Darko Karbeski and Natalija Risteska.

The dramaturge is Lidija Mitoska-Gjorgievska, the set designer is Nenad Tonkin, the costume designer is Marta Dojchinovska and the music composer is Serafim Chernit.

Philipp Löhle (b. 1978, Ravensburg) is one of the most performed German playwrights of his generation. He studied history, theater and media studies and German literature in Erlangen and Rome. He wrote several plays while still a student and worked in journalism and in film, as well.

In 2008, Philipp Löhle received a scholarship to the renowned Royal Court Theatre's international playwrights residency in London. He was awarded the Federation of German Industries' Promotion Prize for "Genannt Gospodin." He has also been nominated for the Mülheim Drama Prize several times: for “Genannt Gospodin” in 2008, for “Das Ding” in 2012 and for “Du (Normen)” in 2014. mr/
