Bytyqi: Aligning with EU regulations to create added value for economy

Skopje, 6 November 2023 (MIA) - Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi held a meeting on Monday with a Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in North Macedonia (AHK) to discuss several topics and issues on improving business operations of German companies.
Interlocutors discussed the need to harmonize customs regulations with those of EU, as it is of great importance for facilitating export-oriented operations of production companies, the Government said in a press release.
"Creating an inclusive and dynamic business environment that will lead to economic growth and development requires consistent monitoring, namely adopting European standards and regulations for customs duties. Aligning with EU customs tariffs for basic raw materials used for manufacturing can create added value into our economy," Bytyqi said.
Liberalization of the labor market was another topic discussed at the working meeting with representatives of some of the German companies that invest in North Macedonia, to which Deputy PM Bytyqi pointed out that the Government recognizes the issues that domestic and foreign companies face, and made the decision to increase the work permit quota for foreigners.
"In order to facilitate access to a qualified workforce that can immediately participate in production for domestic and foreign companies, the Government has decided that work permit quota for foreigners will increase from 5,000 to 7,000," said Bytyqi and emphasized willingness to further facilitate availability of qualified labor and processes though dialogue with businesses.
The Deputy PM stressed the importance of leading an open and constructive dialogue through working meetings, such as the one with AHK, with foreign companies that invest in North Macedonia, because that can encourage economic growth and development and create opportunities for respectable jobs. ssh/ik/
