Bulgarians go to the polls in fresh parliamentary election

Bulgarians go to the polls in fresh parliamentary election

Sofia, 27 October 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Voters in Bulgaria go to the polls on Sunday to elect a new parliament for the seventh time in three and a half years.

The early parliamentary elections in the EU country had become necessary because no party was able to form a government after the early elections on June 9 this year.

Polls indicate that the pro-Western center-right GERB-SDS alliance is likely to emerge from Sunday's elections as the strongest force. However, it is expected that they will not secure an absolute majority.

The Bulgarian parliament is anticipated to remain fragmented. New parties have emerged which are taking part in the election.

It is expected that at least seven political forces will enter parliament after Sunday's vote. Coalition-building is expected to be difficult after these elections just as after previous polls.
