Bulgarian ruling coalition partners hold talks over North Macedonia’s EU accession
Sofia, 29 March 2022 (MIA) – Leaders of the Bulgarian ruling coalition parties are holding a meeting in Sofia late Tuesday for talks focused on North Macedonia’s accession in the European Union, Sofia-based 24 Chasa reports, citing sources of the Bulgarian government and representatives of some of the coalition partners. After Monday’s meeting in Sofia with North Macedonia’s Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, Montenegro’s Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić, and Romania’s Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said North Macedonia has a place in the European family and it must happen as soon as possible. “We’re committed to achieving that, but there are issues that need to be clarified including minority rights,” Petkov told a joint conference of the four premiers. He added that Bulgaria and North Macedonia have made great progress in relations over the past three months, including on historical issues.
