Bulgaria and North Macedonia hold intensive talks, concrete results expected soon, says Bulgarian Ambassador to Tirana
Tirana, 10 April 2022 (MIA) - Bulgaria and North Macedonia are holding intensive talks and the working groups are expected to achieve concrete results soon, Bulgarian Ambassador to Tirana Momtchil Raytchevski said Sunday during his visit to Korca. “We are in a period of very intense talks with North Macedonia. The new Bulgarian government has formed 10 working groups to cooperate on common interest and we expect to achieve concrete results soon. President Meta paid an official visit to Sofia, where the Bulgarian President stressed Bulgaria's unconditional support for the integration of the Republic of Albania,” Raytchevski said in response to a reporter's question whether Bulgaria supports the integration of North Macedonia and Albania into the EU. Sofia's diplomatic representative in Tirana said that his country has been and will remain one of the most active supporters of European enlargement. He refused to comment the statement of Prime Minister Edi Rama that Albania would ask the EU for decoupling from North Macedonia in the accession process. “What Albania will ask for is a decision of the Republic of Albania. I cannot comment when it comes to conditions, but I can say again that Albania has done its job," the Bulgarian Ambassador said. Asked whether the EU should do more for the Western Balkans given the war in Ukraine, Raytchevski said the Union was already doing a lot, but said, "the most important thing at the moment is for everyone to focus on ending the war."
