Pristina, 17 September 2021 (MIA) - The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) urges the other Balkan news agencies to set up a Balkan News Room as a shared space for news from the region. The proposal was made by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev at the 29th General Assembly of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies - Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) which is underway in the capital of Kosovo, Pristina, and hosted by the KOSOVAPRESS. Valchev's idea is that the 12 ABNA-affiliated news agencies exchange news with each other every day. He pointed out as an example the good practice between BTA and MIA which, based on an agreement dated May 2021, exchange important news from their countries on a daily basis, at the same time providing full access to their services. "The Balkan news agencies need to exchange information on a regular basis and help each other in this ocean of news because it is news agencies that are the source of real news," said Valchev. According to him, the website of ABNA-SE is a perfect space for the Balkan News Room. He suggested that Bulgaria hosts the 30th General Assembly of the Association of the Balkan News Agencies - Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE) which will be held ahead of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of BTA, and will be dedicated to the memory of the former director general of the Bulgarian news agency Maxim Minchev. The decision on who will host the next General Assembly will be made on Saturday. The event in Pristina, focusing on Media and News Agencies in the Post-Covid Age, is attended by representatives of 12 countries, including MIA Director General Dragan Antonovski and Deputy Director Halit Ajdini. Participants in the conference are discussing the pandemic and its impact on the work of mass media.
