Skopje, 17 July 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska participated Thursday in the Informal Ministerial Council of the Energy Community held in Athens on the occasion of the 20th anniversary since the establishment of the Energy Community.

In a press release, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said the meeting brought together ministers from the Energy Community’s member states to discuss key steps for the full integration of energy markets between the European Union and the contracting parties.

Minister Bozhinovska gave an address at the event in which she highlighted the country’s commitment to a joint vision of a more integrated, cleaner and safer energy future.

“Discussions focused on accelerating market connection, which will support climate alignment and strengthen energy security in the region. The Minister presented Macedonia’s achievements, including the designation of MEMO as a Nominated Electricity Market Operator in June 2025, as well as progress in the adoption of legislation and cooperation with ACER, ENTSO-E and regional partners,” the Ministry said.

The Council also discussed environmental reforms and climate goals. The Minister stressed that the country, with the support of the Energy Community, is actively working on implementing the European environmental impact assessment directives, air quality, control of emissions from large combustion plants, and strategic environmental planning.

“These measures contribute to a cleaner environment, healthier communities and long-term energy stability,” the Ministry said.

The Minister expressed gratitude for the key role played by the Energy Community in supporting the country’s reforms and its implementation of European standards, highlighting the importance of joint efforts to meet decarbonization and climate neutrality goals. Bozhinovska noted that the country remains committed to the vision of an energy-integrated and sustainable Europe.
