Bozhinovska at Berlin Global Dialogue: Single-source dependency a major risk

Skopje, 24 October 2025 (MIA) – Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska participated on Friday in Berlin Global Dialogue 2025, held under this year's theme "Shifting Power, Shaping Prosperity". The forum is focused on how the new multipolar reality can create stable and sustainable global development, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release.

In her address, Bozhinovska pointed out that the concept of energy security is fundamentally changing today - shifting focus from quantity and source of energy towards resilient and green systems that ensure long-term stability.

"Energy security is no longer only the quantity and source of energy. Today it is a matter of resilience, diversification and transition to cleaner, more sustainable sources. Geopolitical changes have taught us that dependence on a single supplier poses a serious risk. Therefore, our strategy is clear - connecting to multiple markets, building interconnectors and strengthening stability, even in conditions of global uncertainty," said the Minister.

She mentioned the concrete activities that the country is undertaking towards energy independence and sustainability, including diversification of gas supply through the interconnector with Greece, preparation of infrastructure for hydrogen transport, increasing solar and wind production, modernization of the transmission network and investments in storage and digitalization.

"Our vision is simple but ambitious - an energy system that is flexible enough to absorb global shocks, green enough to ensure sustainability and stable enough to guarantee affordable energy for all," Bozhinovska said.

As regards balance between security, availability and sustainability, the Minister stressed that these goals are not mutually exclusive, but interdependent.

"It is not about choosing between security, availability or sustainability, but how we connect these goals. It requires strategy, long-term investments and above all - cooperation. No country can solve global energy challenges alone, but together we can build stronger and more resilient systems," Bozhinovska said.

She also pointed to the importance of AI in energy, noting that it represents a potential for better efficiency.

"AI can strengthen the system's resilience - through more accurate demand forecasting, production optimization and better integration of renewable sources. If used wisely, it will allow us to be more efficient and better prepared for the future," the Minister said.

Berlin Global Dialogue is an international forum that provides a platform uniting leaders from politics, academia and the business sector. The forum is known for its high-level participants, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink.

"Representing Macedonia where the future of energy and global development is discussed is an honour and a responsibility. These meetings are not just about the future of energy - they are about the future of the economy, stability, and the world we leave to future generations," Bozhinovska pointed out.
