Skopje, 31 January 2023 (MIA) – EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell condemned Tuesday the Ohrid incident and said statements given by some nationalist politicians are unacceptable.

High Representative Borrell expressed assurance during a meeting with Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani that perpetrators would face justice.

“I am reassured by the statements from your authorities that those responsible will be brought to justice. At the same time, we hear unacceptable statements made by some nationalist politicians inciting hatred and implying violence. This can only further escalate tensions and is not conductive to an atmosphere facilitating goodneighborly relations. I strongly condemn any incitement to violence,” said Borrell.

According to him, working together to promote an atmosphere of dialogue and mutual respect is crucial.
