Skopje, 5 March 2024 (MIA) — A book launch for Macedonian costume designer Zorka Todorova Mladenovikj's monograph "Costumes in Macedonia from the Advent of Photography to Today" (Ars Lamina) will be held at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle.
Fashion designer Lidija Georgieva and book editor Bisera Bendevska will speak at the launch.
According to the publisher, the monograph is a collection of photos interspersed with personal experiences and quotes from Macedonian writer Stale Popov's novel "Darned Life" (1953) describing in detail the process of making clothes at home. It also includes testimonies of historical figures from early 20th century Macedonia discussing other aspects of dress at the time.
Zorka Todorova Mladenovikj (b. 1943) has designed the costumes for over 90 television shows, films — including "Memento" (1967), "Stand Up Straight, Delfina" (1977) and "Hi-Fi" (1987) — and theater performances.
She has also designed around 200 historical costumes for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Archaeological Museum. After graduating from the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris, France, in 1968, she started her career as a costume designer at the Radio Television Skopje. mr/
